Acrylic, plastic, shredded magazine, plaster, found materials
“VOGUE” is a magazine that is also a family portrait of me and my mom. It is a series of images directly traced from her various magazines. Each double-sided page experiments with different processes of acrylic paint pouring/peeling, embedding plastic, shredded magazine pages, plaster, and other materials, and piping techniques. The idea of gender as simulacra began to emerge throughout the material processes. Paint pouring and peeling required me to work backwards by starting with the surface layers; reversing the process of accumulation ultimately felt like getting to a core that doesn’t exist.
